Aloha, I'm Jennie Hanson. Since an early age, I have been fascinated with massage and it's effects on the body. I graduated massage school in June of 2000 and at that time also became Nationally Certification. Over the past nine years I have practiced massage in a variety of settings including a Chiropractic office, which enabled me to become more aware of how the body works and positively responds to specific soft tissue manipulation. I have also had the opportunity to work at a few Five-Diamond award winning Destination Spas, one of them being on the island of Oahu. While in Hawaii I was trained in the Hawaiian healing art form of Lomi Lomi massage, which I still use in my practice today. This technique flows with the use of my hands, forearms and elbows elongating the muscle tissue for an overall relaxing and therapeutic result.
Three years ago I became certified in Pre and Postnatal massage, which gave me the education to confidently and successfully work with expecting mothers to help ease their pain and discomfort throughout their pregnancy. Receiving massage while pregnant has many benefits to include reducing stress, swelling, and high blood pressure. Massage contributes to developing awareness, flexibility, and the preparation necessary for active birthing.
I have also been trained in Paul St. John's Integrative Neurosomatic Therapy (NMT), which is a structurally integrative approach to pain relief. The method is based on finding improper structural and biomechanical patterns in your body. In order to find these improper patterns, I chart and analyze dysfunctional postural patterns. My purpose is to not only eliminate the pain, but also educate my clients on ways to prevent recurrence of the injury.
Integrative Neurosomatic Therapy fills a void left by traditional health care by analyzing soft tissue causes of pain. According to recent research approximately 90% of pain symptoms are considered idiopathic, which means there is no known cause. We believe the reason there is no known cause is that a proper investigation into the patient's soft tissues is not being performed. Integrative Neurosomatic Therapy is a way to analyze and thoroughly explore the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in order to find these hidden sources of pain (St.John).
Restoring proper structure and biomechanics not only alleviates pain, but also can positively affect a variety of physiological conditions. One of the neurological laws that are the basis for Integrative Neurosomatic Therapy is Wolff's law. Wolff's law states "form follows function and function follows form." Thus, a distortion in the form of the body is often correlated to improper function of the body. For example, a slouching posture can decrease digestive function or a trigger point into the ear can affect hearing or balance. When proper structure is restored to the body, the accompanying physiological problems are often alleviated (St.John).
So whether you're in need of a little R&R or suffering from new or chronic pain I would be happy to personalize a massage session for you. Please don't hesitate to call with any questions you may have.
